The Amazon river has the largest debit of all the rivers in the world. It draws it’s waters form the Andes mountains and it has thousands of tributary rivers which donate their waters in order to form the mighty river which is Amazon. Due to its sheer size, the river has not only influenced the landscape and the local climate, but it also dictated the evolution patterns of the animals living in it’s proximity.  Every single species which has it’s habitat in the Amazon river basin is fully adapted to live in that environment. Because the water are rather murky due to the amount of debris coming from upstream, most of the fish and mammals swimming in it’s waters have sharpened scenes of smell, and some even rely on echolocation to find their way around as is the case of some dolphin species.  Some fish species such as the discus fish have adapted to live among roots, closer to the shore line in order not to be dragged away by the strong current form the middle of the river and to better evade predators. There are countless species of birds which nest in the trees adjacent to the waterline in order to have easy access to their main source of food: fish. However they are also in danger when close to the water because that’s also the habitat of other animals which are higher up the food chain such as the cat fish, the deadly piranha fish or the Amazon alligator.

Ram Bahadur BomjonRam Bahadur Bomjon is an Indian young man, born in 1990 and who is known for his monastic life. Some people claim that Ram is actually the reincarnation of Buddha, although he denies it. The Buddhist religion also claims that a Buddha cannot reincarnate for he has entered Nirvana. Ram started meditating in 2005 and drew the attention of thousands of people after he kept meditating for months at a time, thus being nick-named the Buddha Boy. He always sought quiet places such as a tree hollow for meditation but in several instances he was forced to leave because large amounts of people were drawn to him, thus making it difficult for the meditative process to take place. A few times he also addressed the crowds saying that the world is heading in a wrong direction and that the people are blinded by anger, greed, jealousy and attachment which will finally lead to the total destruction of humanity. He also claimed to be meditating in order to save the world from it’s fate and that in order to succeed we all need to change the way we live our lives by giving up on greed, attachment, jealousy and anger.

I saw a very interesting video on the internet the other day about a demonstration of quantum levitation. Before that, I did not even knew that quantum levitation is real, and I think this is why I was so surprised to actually see it. This very particular phenomena allows a block to be suspended in space with the help of magnetic fields.  After it’s suspended it can glide abode the surface in a way which is very similar to levitation. In fact, quantum levitation can be explained by the fact that a super conductor, when is frozen at very low temperatures, allows magnetic fields to curve around it, thus “locking” it into space. This kind of technology could only be seen in science fiction movies until now, but it seems that it’s more real than we thought. The implications and potential use of quantum levitation is so huge that we can only start to realize all the sensibilities which are there for us. But until then take a look at the video. I promise you that you will be impressed by it as I was when I first saw it:
