An AED or portable defibrillator is a computerized medical device which is used to recognize a heart rate of a patient and determine if it’s the case for an electric shock or not. If a shock is required in order to save the life of the patient then the AED device will apply one in order for the heart to reset and begin beating on its own again. Most such devices are designed to be used by people who have no medical training what so ever by providing clear written, illustrated and vocal instruction for every step of the procedure. Provided the instruction are followed as such there is no risk for a bigger shock than needed to be applied and there is also no risk that the user of the device will be socked accidentally. Such devices are becoming more and more popular especially in public places where chances of accidents are higher than usual. More and more school, churches, health clubs and other public places are being fitted with portable AED devices, as it has been proven that under certain circumstances they have a rate of over 90% of saving the life of someone in need of a defibrillation.

The Amazon river has the largest debit of all the rivers in the world. It draws it’s waters form the Andes mountains and it has thousands of tributary rivers which donate their waters in order to form the mighty river which is Amazon. Due to its sheer size, the river has not only influenced the landscape and the local climate, but it also dictated the evolution patterns of the animals living in it’s proximity. Every single species which has it’s habitat in the Amazon river basin is fully adapted to live in that environment. Because the water are rather murky due to the amount of debris coming from upstream, most of the fish and mammals swimming in it’s waters have sharpened scenes of smell, and some even rely on echolocation to find their way around as is the case of some dolphin species. Some fish species such as the discus fish have adapted to live among roots, closer to the shore line in order not to be dragged away by the strong current form the middle of the river and to better evade predators. There are countless species of birds which nest in the trees adjacent to the waterline in order to have easy access to their main source of food: fish. However they are also in danger when close to the water because that’s also the habitat of other animals which are higher up the food chain such as the cat fish, the deadly piranha fish or the Amazon alligator.
Ram Bahadur Bomjon is an Indian young man, born in 1990 and who is known for his monastic life. Some people claim that Ram is actually the reincarnation of Buddha, although he denies it. The Buddhist religion also claims that a Buddha cannot reincarnate for he has entered Nirvana. Ram started meditating in 2005 and drew the attention of thousands of people after he kept meditating for months at a time, thus being nick-named the Buddha Boy. He always sought quiet places such as a tree hollow for meditation but in several instances he was forced to leave because large amounts of people were drawn to him, thus making it difficult for the meditative process to take place. A few times he also addressed the crowds saying that the world is heading in a wrong direction and that the people are blinded by anger, greed, jealousy and attachment which will finally lead to the total destruction of humanity. He also claimed to be meditating in order to save the world from it’s fate and that in order to succeed we all need to change the way we live our lives by giving up on greed, attachment, jealousy and anger.
Diamonds are the toughest natural materials known to man. They have been formed during many million years by the processes of intense heat and pressure under the surface of the Earth. They are usually found at big depths in the Earth’s crust making them a very rare commodity for people. Because they are so rare and though in the same time, diamonds are also very expensive and sought after by many. Diamond jewelry such as diamond earrings, diamond necklaces and diamond rings are at the very end of the circuit of this very important natural resource. Any diamond actually begins it’s journey deep in a mine, from where it’s taken with the help of heavy machinery and explosives. After that, they are shipped in their rough form to diamond dealers who sell them to jewelers. It is the jewelers duty to cut the rough stones and in order to maximize their brightness and shape. After they have been cut to a perfection, diamonds are then inserted into various jewelry types and then they’re show cased in jewelry stores for the customers to purchase.
I saw a very interesting video on the internet the other day about a demonstration of quantum levitation. Before that, I did not even knew that quantum levitation is real, and I think this is why I was so surprised to actually see it. This very particular phenomena allows a block to be suspended in space with the help of magnetic fields. After it’s suspended it can glide abode the surface in a way which is very similar to levitation. In fact, quantum levitation can be explained by the fact that a super conductor, when is frozen at very low temperatures, allows magnetic fields to curve around it, thus “locking” it into space. This kind of technology could only be seen in science fiction movies until now, but it seems that it’s more real than we thought. The implications and potential use of quantum levitation is so huge that we can only start to realize all the sensibilities which are there for us. But until then take a look at the video. I promise you that you will be impressed by it as I was when I first saw it:
I recently visited New York, one of my dream cities I must confess. However, I could only stay for one night in Big Apple because early next morning I had to be at the airport to continue my journey back home. But in the short time I got to see the streets of New York I must say that I was ablsolutely fascinated by this wonderful city. The outside lighting on the city is something that cannot be described with words. There are skyscrapers which are look so beautiful with their lights that it makes you fee that you are in a ferry tale. And even during then night there were a lot of cars on the street which really surprised me because back home after 10 in the night you can barely see anybody outside. Now I really understand why it’s called the city that never sleeps.
After walking for about two hours in the central part of the city I ventured a little o the side streets to see how average people live there. I really expected to see a lot of dark alleys where homeless people take refuge, but instead I only saw clean residential areas. And the only parts which seemed to be dark quickly lit up when I came close by because there were a lot of motion detector lights which were only activated if people passed by them. That was something completely new to me. I would have staid for longer in order to examine the city in greater details but the night was almost over and I had to head back to the airport to continue my journey. Until the next time my dear New York.
